Ryan Ketchum: Mixed Media
While perusing one of my favourite art websites – Brooklyn Art Project, I came across the work of mixed media artist Ryan Ketchum and was immediately a fan. Originally from Arkansas, Ketchum has moved around a bit, living in San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Seattle, New Orleans, finally settling in Brooklyn, New York.
A self-taught artist, Ketchum’s abstract and figurative works combine acrylic, spray paint, marker, and inks to create striking images with sharp colours that draw the viewer in to examine the finer details. His oddly angled characters often have the feel of collage with a hint of Byzantine style.
